Watch the Christian Movie: "Greater" (2016)

For those who like Christian sports movies based upon a true story, "Greater" will not disappoint. This inspiring movie depicts a large youngster raised mostly by his mother and an older brother everyone thinks is his dad; this "fat" child developed dreams of playing professional football for the NFL, as well as playing college football for the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Brandon Burlsworth defied all odds by not only playing a key role in high school football, but also walking on to the Arkansas Razorbacks football team his freshman year. Being from a family with little money to spare, paying for college to play as a walk-on wasn't going to happen past his first year. This was a problem, as Brandon was red-shirted his freshman year and only promised to play one game at the end of the year on the sidelines with no scholarship. This was challenging because Brandon had a full scholarship to a D3 college nearby his home -- he passed this over to play as a walk-on with Arkansas because it was his dream to play for the college even though he was slightly undersized.

Being undersized may have been a problem at first, but Brandon grew larger before showing up to college football practice. After he made headway as a walk-on and impressed one of the coaches, he got serious and got in great shape, now being around 6'4" and 275 lbs -- perfect for the lineman position he held, tackle to be exact.

Unfortunately, as foreshadowed at the beginning of the movie, Brandon ends up dying young right before he was to play in the NFL as a draft pick. After he was offered a full scholarship to Arkansas for the remaining 3 years he was in college, Brandon was selected as an All-American, which set him up to be in the NFL draft. This is a very tragic end to this faithful and inspiring young man.

When it comes to Christian sports movies, this is one of the best. One of the major themes in the movie was Brandon's unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. His faithfulness and obedience to live out the Holy Bible set him apart from his teammates, yet also set him up to become a leader for the team. This helped them play an extraordinary season his senior year despite all odds, as the team was in a rebuilding year with a new coach.

Thought I would share this great movie, hope you enjoy. Blessings in Jesus.
